The girl sure is sweet when it comes to the boy. She loves her baby. William is eating well, and sleeping alright. We're looking forward to showing off our wonderful kids over the holidays.
So far things are going pretty well. I am making some progress on chores (and Christmas!), and even have Christmas cards (although, i hate to suggest that means i'll get them in the mail soon - i have a back-log of chores to do.)

Josh actually got to hold his baby right away this time... William is currently appearing to adored sleeping on dad's shoulder.
Introducing the boy
Operation Ultra was a success, and that means this blog requires a name change. Here is the boy - William, born on Dec. 9, 9:21 pm.

I've written some about Madeleine's penchant for games, and hanging out with her dad. Well, her friend Elaine is of a similar bent, and i can't imagine that much makes their dads happier than getting to play games with their kids.
caitlinmadoct2
Last October Aunt Taitlin came to visit, thrilling Madeleine to death. Madeleine really had a great time with her.

the girl and her dad
The reason for this new found knowledge is that she adores playing 'Beatles Rock Band' with her dad. They will sit side-by-side, dad playing either the guitar or drums and singing, and the girl singing. (She also has her own guitar, but i don't see her playing it much. She wants to have it with her, i guess just in case inspiration strikes.) The girl will request 'nother song' for a long time during this game, with her most frequent requests being 'Octopus's Garden', and 'I am the Walrus'. She doesn't sing very much in the way of actual lyrics, preferring to chime in with the occasional bout of 'Happy Birthday', or 'Motorboat', but she does seem to be learning some of the easier phrases ('Bang bang', or 'coo coo choo').
Aside from this cuteness the girl is turning into a Daddy's Girl in another way - her current fascination with games. Dad has bought her a few real games, and she adores playing with them. I think she'd play them all night long if we were willing to play with her. You can see her collection and reviews here:

I love that she plays games with us. Its something that drew me to her dad to begin with - that he spent his time doing something, something that required thought and action and social intercourse. I'm glad that the girl gets to do those things, and that she gets so much pleasure out of them. Right now the games involve a lot of matching, and it is really cool to see her skills develop. She is getting better at taking turns, and matching pictures and shapes. (She is also learning to pick up her games, put them away, ask to play, etc. - all skills I appreciate.) I think we both enjoy spending some time with her, playing a game or ten.
What with all this time spent with dad, the girl is getting closer to him. (hey, she even said 'go away mommy' the other night after a few bouts with her 'go away monster' game.) While i never want to lose my adorable little girl, i love seeing her developing relationship with her dad. It will serve them both well in the years to come to have a positive foundation from which to build.

Rachel says, on Facebook:
Madeleine just did something pretty clever- she made up a stack of duplos, with a base and a larger block at the top, held it up, and said, "Space Needle."
This probably is completely age appropriate, but somehow i'm impressed. It also does a good job, somehow, of summing up where the girl is right now. She loves the space needle, and is starting to get to know her larger home of Seattle. She can talk - often in quite grammatically correct sentences. She can build, with Legos! It is hard to believe what a person she has become - what a vibrant, and cheerful, and loving, and interested person she has become. But, with many hugs to her - she'll exceed all of our expectations.

cleaninggirl
You know, if you want to see even more photos you can click through to flickr. The girl loves cleaning, and helping. She got this toddler sized cleaning set for her birthday, from her Aunt, and she adores it!

The girl, at the top of the space needle, wearing a new sweater from her aunt. She is almost two here.
peaceneedles
The girl and her friend are huge fans of the Space Needle. One Friday we took them to the Space Needle, went all the way to the top, and even got them shirts. They adored it. Not our cheapest Friday, as it turns out, but really worth it to see two such happy kids.
ultra18wks
Girl and Dog will soon be Girl and Dog and...well, we don't know. Operation Ultra is well underway, with a due date of 8 December. The girl knows that she will get a new baby this winter (although, clearly not what that means). She says 'baby growing in mommy's belly-button'. Ultra looks healthy so far, cross your fingers!
carrot
The girl is giving a good impression of someone who eats.... This carrot was picked fresh from Rachel's garden, and that seems to do the trick. The girls spent a lot of time this summer 'swimming' all afternoon, and getting fresh produce from the back yard.
yummy
We didn't do a whole lot for Father's day, but we did go get ice cream at the lake. I have a bunch of really cute pictures from that trip, which is nice. Here, the girl and dad chow down together. This photo, with special love for an awesome Dad.

recent photos from girl and dog's family
This spring and early summer a lot of our life was taken up with a big kitchen remodel. Josh's photos of the process may be found here:

Our other extranormal exciting thing was a trip to Norway. I was presenting at a conference in Trondheim, so Josh and i managed to finagle a week which gave us some extra time to get away together and see a new place. Josh's photos are here:

while mine are here:

I must admit to needing more commentary on my own photos, which i do so hope to get to.

wading pool
The girl got a new wading pool at some point this summer. It mostly lives at her friend's house, but, they have been enjoying it a lot. It also probably saved many days during the hottest part of the summer.

We went to Norway in May, sans girl and dog, sadly. However, there are pictures up on flickr if you'd like to see them.

Madeleine in Red
We took Madeleine to a concert the other day. She did great. She clapped, she cheered, she danced, she stole all of our friends' cheese. I feel lucky that we can do this sort of thing with her.

look2
The girls says there are trees where you go hiking. Often there are also rocks.
(We went hiking while camping a couple of weeks ago. She gave me a rock to keep in my pocket. Later in the day i was giving her chocolate covered cherries out of my pocket and fished out the rock by accident. It looked like a cherry! Neither one of us liked that surprise - and, yes, i also tried to eat it to figure out what she was complaining about.)

Madeleine060609
I'm feeling pretty badly that I haven't updated with new pictures recently. I have a lot to get off my cameras and then put on the web, but i haven't had a lot of time to do it. Of course, the longer i put it off, the harder it gets.
At any rate, the girl's Aunt took this picture after dinner the other night, and i thought you all would like it, so i'm posting this mostly to let you know that girl and dog are still runnng around out there!
The girl is sweeter than ever, has had another language explosion (she uses sentences, and names!), and is tantalizing close to having dry pants all day every day. We've had so much fun watching her and her BFF grow into two year olds.
trip to the park
This is the girl with her favorite and idolized cousin and aunt. Aunt and cousin have been entertaining her all week while her nanny has a vacation. She may never let them out of her sight again!

bike!
Big day (for mom, at least). After a few weeks of hearing 'bike, bike' every time one of these showed up, we decided it was time for Madeleine to get her very own. A specialized two-wheeler (just like mom's), that she adores. We're working on riding skills, but she managed to get it to the dog park and back (from the parking lot). The girl says, 'Bike! Helmet!'.
puddles!
This is why we needed to buy her rain boots. A good morning at the playground includes slides, swings, and some puddle stamping.

The girl with her friend on Friday. I love the looks on their faces. This was a pretty rainy day for playgrounding it, but, it is still good to get the kids (and us) out of the house. We also went and saw the conservatory next to the playground. Its a small conservatory but full of great smells, luscious plants, and some quite nice cacti.

beepbeep
This winter a new house is being erected across the street from our house. This meant that there have often been trucks over there - trucks that go 'beep beep beep'. Here is the girl hanging out in the kitchen window enraptured by the trucks and saying 'beep beep beep'.

On Fridays, recently, i've been hanging out with my friends Heidi, Darcy, and Rachel, with our kids (well, and Rachel has Elaine). It is pretty awesome. Here is the girl doing some construction work at the Children's museum in Seattle Center.

More Girl and Dog pictures. You can see the big beast trying to figure out if he'll fit in the bed with the girl and the little dogs.
Snow!
The dog has, from day one, loved the snow. I love watching him play in it. I'm glad i got some pictures of him in action last January. Go check out flickr for some more shots from this same gallop.
It is funny to see him frozen in action, because he is usually either lazy, or moving too fast to see details.

lick
The dog loves snow of all kinds. Hoping to get some more brilliant pictures of him frolicking up soon.
snowtrees
In January we spent a snowy weekend in Spokane. It was peaceful and beautiful, and fun to in such a wintery land.

dadgirl
From 18 Jan., - we took a family bike ride up north to a local brewpub. Nachos were eaten, fun was had, and girl and dad made my day by joining me.
mollyshowsmthezoo
On Fridays i stay home from work and we can go on field trips in the morning. The zoo is a favorite destination, and here our friend Molly is showing Madeleine around. Molly is an incredibly sweet friend to Madeleine.
train
The girl got this train for Christmas (and the rest as a hand-me-down). Sometimes in the evenings she calls 'tain tain' until she gets to play with it for a while. Occasionally she even says 'chugga chugga'.
snowymagnolia
This is the home of girl and dog. Winter 2008-2009 has seen a lot of snow, which is great news to me. On this night the whole world was hushed by the snow, and the light catching the flakes was superb.
